Technology used in Fourdot Coolings Fans

Brushless DC (BLDC) motor technology is the gold standard for PC fans because it solves the biggest problem with traditional motors: physical contact.  Instead of using physical brushes to switch the current, BLDC motors use electronic commutation. 

 

  • The Permanent Magnet (Rotor): In a PC fan, the magnet is actually attached to the fan blades themselves.
  • The Copper Coils (Stator): These stay stationary in the center of the fan.
  • The Hall Effect Sensor: This is the "brain." It detects the position of the magnet and tells the controller which coils to energize.

The fan operates using electromagnetic principles to move air while minimizing physical friction.

Why Ball Bearing Technology Matters

In the world of cooling, there are two main types: 

1. Sleeve Bearings (cheaper, oil-based)

2. Dual Ball Bearings


The technology shown is designed for reliability and longevity. While a sleeve bearing fan might fail after a year of heavy use in a hot environment, a dual ball bearing fan is engineered to run continuously for several years without the lubricant drying out or the shaft seizing.

Detailed Component Breakdown

1. Fan Leaf (Rotor)

Material: Constructed from a blend of PBT (Polybutylene terephthalate) and glass fiber. 

Purpose: This composite material ensures the blades are rigid and resistant to deformation even at high speeds, which maintains consistent air pressure and "wind force".

2. Spring + Gasket

Function: These small mechanical components are placed on the shaft for shock absorption and pressure reduction. 

Benefit: They provide "better fan protection" by dampening vibrations that could otherwise damage the motor or bearings over time.

3. Coil + Steel Sheet (Stator)

Construction: The motor core is made of pure copper wire wound around a steel sheet stack. 

Purpose: This assembly generates the electromagnetic field necessary to spin the fan. Using pure copper ensures high electrical conductivity and "stability of the fan" during operation.

4. Double Ball Bearing

Technology: Unlike standard fans that use friction-heavy sleeves, this model features a built-in double ball bearing system. 

Advantages: This design is specifically noted for providing a long lifespan and low noise levels, as the rolling elements significantly reduce internal friction.

5. Outer Frame

Material: The housing is made of blend of PBT (Polybutylene terephthalate) and glass fiber. . 

Purpose: Beyond structural integrity, the metal frame acts as a secondary heat sink, offering a better heat dissipation effect compared to standard plastic frames.
